Travel Funding For Squash MB Teams
Every year Squash Manitoba sends teams to represent Manitoba at tournaments around the country. Our Junior Team athletes travel to various tournaments, including the Junior National Championships. Our Senior Team, men's and women's, are our provincial representatives at the Senior Canadian Provincial Team Championships. Last year, Manitoba participated in the Western Canadian Masters Team Championships, also. The Senior National Championships is also well represented by our province's top open and age group players.
Manitoba athletes, who participate in these tournaments and championships, are selected by certain criteria. All athletes chosen to represent Manitoba must support our fundraising efforts. The requirement is to work bingo's. Each tournament has different levels of funding, therefore different volunteer requirements. Once athletes are chosen to a traveling team, they will be contacted with regards to their bingo requirement.
The following is a brief outline of how athletes are selected to each team:
- Junior Elite Traveling Team - based on tryouts and training programs determined by the provincial coaches. Traveling schedule is determined by the coaches. Bingo participation is required.
- Senior Provincial Men's & Women's Team - based on provincial rankings. Teams are sent to the Canadian Team Championships with full funding. Bingo participation is required.
- Masters Provincial Team - based on results of tournaments and leagues. Team is sent to the Western Canadian Vets Championships. Air travel and accommodation funded depending on budget. Bingo participation is required.
- Senior National Championships- partial funding is offered to Manitoba's top three male & female open athletes (must be ranked 1-5) Bingo participation is required.
